Tips for trying to conceive

Getting pregnant sometimes seems hard for some couples. Although every couple is different, if you think you had a hard time to try to conceive, the following list of tips for getting pregnant may help you, whether you want to conceive a boy or a girl.

Stress can be the top factor that affects your fertility as it can greatly affect your health and your hormonal balance. Having enough sleep, drinking adequate amount of water, exercising, and stop thinking about getting pregnant can reduce your stress from getting pregnant. You can also try stress management techniques such as Yoga and meditation.

Once an egg is released from your ovaries, it needs to be fertilized by the sperms in the fallopian tube in order to get pregnant. An egg can survive in the fallopian tube for about 20 hours, while sperms can survive for 1-3 days. So generally speaking, if you ovulate on day 15, day 13-16 would be the most fertile time. Try to have intercourse at least every other day around those days. If you use OPK, it is recommended to have intercourse the day it turns positive and the day after.

Avoid hot shower/tub, body lotion and lubricant before intercourse as they will either lower the sperm quality or create an unfavorable environment for the sperms. But women should always keep the uterus “warm” (with adequate flow of blood) as a warm uterus is ideal for implantation.

There is some evidence that Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and acupuncture can increase the fertility. They can also help you increase the probability to conceive a boy or girl if you have a gender preference.

Tips for conceiving a boy and conceiving a girl can be different. But the above tips are useful regardless which gender you prefer.
